McMurray hatchery good?

I have bought birds from them over the years and just recently got an order of 25 chicks...I ordered 25 and got 27...all are thriving...I have always been happy with my purchases from McMurrey...the Toulouse goslings and Cayuga ducklings I ordered this spring are fat and sassy...man those geese are BIG! The girls have started to lay...nothing from the ducks yet...

They're a good company in my experience. My very first batch of chicks I got where from them. 3 died but that was because I was a newb and fried them with the heat lamp to low. I still have a few of those birds. I think mcmurray's prices are a little high. And I'll never order SLWs again from them. They looked like sebrights!

we ordered from mcmurray hatchery several years ago, we only lost between 1 to 3 chicks out of them all. I should have ordered from them instead of meyers hatchery, I won't buy from meyers again.

What did you get for the free, mystery chicks? Polish?
I am planning on ordering the Light Brahmas, Standard EE, and Australorps from them.

Ideal poultry I believe is generally cheaper than McMurray. I don't have any opinion on whose chicken's are of better quality though.

I also don't know if you can request for them not to add a mystery chick. If you don't/can't you might just end up with another rooster. My one experience with a mystery chick was a bad one. I think it was blue cochin, but I can't say for sure, since it never matured. I forget how long it lived before it died, but the other chicks grew considerably bigger while it stayed looking like a week old or younger chick. It was lame too, and couldn't stand up all the way but just hobbled around.

Can't see how chicks being left on a mail truck is the hatchery's fault? Also, if chicks got to you alive & well only to die a month or more later it sounds to me like a problem with care or environment, not a hatchery problem.

the ones that died 9 months later we know was from breeding. we talked to our vet and other silkie breeders and silkies that drop dead randomly have some sort of genic disorder that can result with bad breeding. plus our birds are fed very healthy food and live in very sanitary conditions. we had problems with custormer survice and my mom had to fight with the lady just to get another shippment of chicks after they froze to death. and we had gotten chicks before several times from different hatcheries and had not had as many problems as we did with them. plus how do you discribe all the chicks dieing within a week, i will never order from them again

I think I'm going to be worried about the post office and not the hatchery.

My starters too came from them. All arrived very healthy. They will be 2 yrs old in July. And still laying strong. I highly reccomend them.

I ordered the Duke's Mixture in August this year from McMurray Hatchery. Completely random pick from them, which I was excited to receive. I got 28 chicks (25 plus 1 exotic bonus and 2 extras). I ended up with 14 pullets and 14 cockerels; 1 pullet was a cross-beak and died around 9 weeks, and 1 other pullet was taken by a predator. The rest are growing like crazy, happy and healthy and beautiful. I would order from McMurray again.
