McMurray Ornamental Layers My Spanish are WONDERFUL!

We ordered the Ornamental Layer Collection from McMurray out of all the chicks we got , Cochins, Brahmas, buttercup, Egyptian Fayomoui, Salmon Faveralls, Hamburg, Polish and Crevecour as well as many EE's, It is the three White faced Black Spanish chicks that are the friendliest They will just sit on your hand or even your shoulder wherever you put them. They are all 7 wks old and they have not been handled to much especially the three spanish.
I was playing with them today and it just Really suprised me. They are the only ones that just sit there.
I had heard they are flighty and avoid contact.
Right now the skitterish one is the Egyptian Fayomui. The EE's are also pretty flighty and jump down as soon as you let go of them.

Just wanted to share my observations of these birds. I hope they stay that way as they get older.

Congratulations on your new flock! We got our first flock from McMurray too. I heard the same thing you did about some of the breeds. But we found our Buttercup, Silver Spangled Hamburg and White Faced Black Spanish were some of the friendliest birds we received. Our Golden Penciled Hamburg will sit and "chat" but really has no interest in being a lap chicken.

I would suggest that if you want them to continue to be friendly, handle them frequently (at least once a day) and let them know you mean them no harm. If they get used to you picking them up and examining their faces and under their tails and wings up close, you will find it easier to examine them incase they get injured or sick later one.

This a rooster a good friend of mine had for years. He lived to be quite old and was always friendly. I think WFBS are just awesome looking chickens. Too bad I can have any more breeds.

Thanks I think some people just have bad luck with some or maybe it depends on the hatchery. Our buttercup has a broken leg so its hard to tell how friendly she would be. We have tried to set it but she still just hops around with it up behind her.
I try to handle them alot but with that many it is very hard. The EE's get it the least because it is hard to tell alot of them apart.
If anyone else has pictures of the WFBS I would love to see them. I looked at Feathersite but sometimes people here just have better pictures!

I am jealous. I too ordered MMH Ornamental Collection but didn't really get what I was hoping for. I would have loved to have gotten a Spanish included in mine.

I ended up with 10 WC Black Polish, 5 Silver Phoenix, 2 Silver Leghorn, 1 Crevecoeur (which died), 1 Blue Andalusian, 1 Gold Hamburg, 3 similar colored EE'ers, 2 White Polish (1 of which turned out to be male).

I did get the right Bantams I chose, but 1 died and they didnt send any extras like they said they would.

I was hoping for more of a variety and was surprised they sent so many of the same breed.

Although the ones I kept are all doing great and are wonderful birds at 9 weeks.

That was my first time ever ordering chickens. I think next time I will choose exactly what breeds I want and pay a little extra to have them sexed. But I would order from them again, definitely.

We didn't order the Ornamental Layers; we purchased 25 different breeds - one of each - for our first flock. The WFBS was one of the breeds we wanted.

You know, I posted a shout out for WFBS holders not long ago. I'm going to take this opportunity to again say, "If anyone within a 3 hr drive of me has a few of these lovelies they need to unload, I am right here and I have a driver's license."
