McMurray's New Shipping Practices...has anyone heard about this?

sorry about your chicks, thats too bad. If youre talking about McMurray, they ship on Saturdays, I know the ship date is the monday of the week you order, but I called and asked exactly when they would hatch and ship, so I was ready for them Sunday when I got the call. I dont know why some orders such as mine to CA got there Sunday am, and some apparently take forever when theyre a lot closer. Good luck with your chicks, they will refund any chicks that dont make it in the first 48 hrs I believe.

OKay, WAIT.. this place is SO huge, sending SO many birds divided over six days... that it's gumming up the PO...

But shipping your entire week's order all in one day, while the PO is open for regular business, doesn't?

That makes absolutely no sense... I'd be calling the PO directly (find the one nearest the hatchery via USPS.com) and asking them if this is the case... even a low man on the totem pole would probably notice if they were shipping a million birds ONLY on Saturdays.

Something about that just does not ring true, maybe I read it wrong...

I personally rarely by from Mcmurray. Their customer service leaves a little to be desired imo. I do a lot of shopping around between hatcheries and I am happy with Whelp Hatchery. They always send extras, and all orders were healthy except for one where 80 out of 100 broilers were DOA. They replaced them with no problem. It was weird because the weather was great but we think they got baked in a truck or something. Whelp also doesn't charge shipping. Shipping is an arm and a leg for a lot of hatcheries. There are a few others I like too. The information below was for broilers.

Whelp - FREE! shipping, good birds and great customer service
Hoffman - Low prices and low shipping costs
Meyer - Low prices but little bit higher shipping so for my orders so far when I added shipping they haven't been the cheapest but doesn't hurt to check.
Ridgeway - Normal prices and kinda pricey shipping
Hoover's Hatchery - Normal prices, insane shipping prices
Mt. Healthy hatchery - Little bit high prices, normal shipping.
Cackle Hatchery - Little pricey, Little bit higher shipping but good prices.
Ideal - Very pricey birds but low shipping prices. Lots of little fees with shipping though so if you mix and match don't use them.
Mcmurray - Very pricey, Very high shipping.
Strombergs - Prices on poultry include shipping so sometimes great deal, sometimes not. They offer some rarer birds though.

There are lots more hatcheries too. Hope this helps someone.

I was told by McM on the phone that they ship saturdays. I was only concerned with my order, not their whole operations, so maybe they ship different birds on different days, Idk. Now that I have a good sized flock, I will buy replacements/new birds from breeders because I wont have to deal with raising chicks and can see the quality Im getting. Personally I have never had a problem with this hatchery, and use them because I got good birds from them as a kid.

I have heard stories on here that were otherwise, though. Like any other subject, you will hear both sides.

Just FYI I've had a TON of trouble with my shipping USPS, the service is going further and further downhill...

Does anyone know if UPS ships live birds? I haven't seen anything as to if they do or don't.

Have not ordered from McMurray this year, but in the past I have...two years got them on Monday a.m. like promised all chicks healthy and happy and last year, got them on sunday...call promptly from the P.O...again they were fine and healthy. Customer service actually called me the first time to make sure I got them and all was well..I have nothing but praise for their Customer Service if I ask them a question also. like someone said, you will hear good and bad...more bad always because that's what ppl. like to spread first.
