I recently orderd mcmurrys Wormgaurd Plus with flax. I figured I could eat my eggs with it, and not worry about worms and parasites. My chickens are VERY healthy and Want to continue that. Does this product really live up to what it says it does?

"PoultryGuard Wormer Plus Flax 2 lb pkg
Holistic Health Care examines the impact that disposition and environment have on your animals overall health. It differs from conventional care because it doesn't just treat symptoms, but rather seeks the underlying causes of an illness. The main wormer in WormGaurd is a more concentrated form of FDA aopproved Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth which consist of tiny phytoplankton's mainly composed of amorphous hydrated silicates, of less that 1%. This is packaged especially for poultry (with whole flax-does not need refrigeration)

It would be GREAT to find a product that's really proven in this area...I seem to keep hearing that products such as these really don't give a good representation of what they actually do. I'm going to ask another BYC member who is VERY familiar with this sort of thing to weigh in for you on your question.

I will say, however, that my avian vet has told me numerous times that the very best wormer out there is Ivermec Eprinex (a cattle wormer), and she has advised me to use it twice yearly on my flocks. I do not do this, as none of my flocks (as of yet) has proven to carry a worm load. I, instead, have faecal floats done quarterly. They've all come back just fine. If and when it ever does NOT come back fine, I won't mess around...I'll go for the Ivermec Eprinex since my vet has recommended it. But, everyone has their level of comfort.

Thank you I think i'll use up the bag but won't waste my money on it again. I'll Look into faecal floats and get one done with my flock. Theres a tester in my area I'm having him test for other things, ill ask him if he can do it, or if he knows an avain vet who does.
