MD - Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameracauna eggs

Thanks. I am really impressed with the color of these eggs as well. My young blue ameracaunas just started laying and their eggs are pale... almost white. Maybe they will darken up, but the Wheatens first eggs were perfect color. I am still getting consistent color in these eggs.... altho with 7 degree temperatures, I am not getting daily eggs consistently. I am so worried about eggs freezing before I find them. I TRY to go outside every 1-2 hours to ck.... but cant always make it out.

The first 2+ dozen eggs are in the incubator and fertility looks awesome. there are maybe 3-4 eggs not developing, but Im going to blame that on the chance that the egg got too cold before I brought it in the house.

I wanted to make a small request about my waiting list. ( I don't usually do waiting lists for this reason) It seems that I am having to go down the list a few people before I find someone that is able to take the eggs at the time eggs are ready. ( the marans list too) I honestly don't have that kind of time when I have to correspond back and forth with 4-5 different people before I find someone that is ready. For that reason.... I am going to need people to prepay for the eggs and then I will ship them as soon as they are ready. I will try to honor the people on my list as best I can but with breeding season starting, and I have many different species of birds here, I NEED to simplify things. Hope you all understand.
To prepay.... cost with shipping is $30 for a dozen. paypal to [email protected] There may be times when the hens don't lay a dozen eggs in a week. If that happens I will offer you a few eggs from my other birds to complete the dozen.

If you have questions please email me instead of sending a PM here...... I'll see it sooner.

Is there any chance you'll separate those birds for pure lines?

Clay blue wheaten/ wheaten/ and splash wheaten work the same way as blue/ black/ and splash birds genetically. With these birds you will not get mixed colors from the chicks you will get a % of blue wheaten , wheaten, and splash wheaten chicks. They are pure breeds and pure colors.

Your birds are beautiful.

I do not have an incubator and have no intention of increasing my flock by very much. What are my chances of letting you hatch 3 blue egg-laying chicks for me around March? I live in MD and could come get them. I am also looking for a couple of welsummers, if you breed those (and would prefer to get them from the same place at the same time).

I have plenty of brown egg layers, I would like to widen my color pallet when I collect my eggs.

Thank you.

Stay Warm!

True Henry. They are pure. However, I think later in the spring i will separate the varieties just to see what I get.... and to give the other males a chance to prove them self... It seems the blue wheaten male is the dominant one and the only one in the pen breeding. Id like to put the wheaten male in a separate pen with wheaten hens eventually. And I have a LOVELY splash male in the pen too... but he kind of lives in the corner and gets chased away from the girls (poor thing) Id like to use him with the blue wheaten hens.

Will wait until Spring before doing this though.

Thank you!! I have eggs in the bator now, and will continue hatching eggs through the winter... so of course you can pick up chicks.... when ever you are ready. I do not have Welsummers, but a friend /neighbor does. And I could get some from him before you come. OR... I have marans that lay equally dark eggs.

Stay WARM!!!! OMG I dont mind the cold so much. I just hate dealing with frozen wterers for the birds!! what a pain!!

Thank you. This is VERY kind of you.

I have not had any marans nor welsummers. From the reading I have done, the welsummers are larger, more friendly, and more winter hardy (which seems to be important today). I am looking for a breed that will go well with a mixed flock of standard sized hens As a far more experienced chicken raiser, what are your thoughts on this? My goal is to have a flock of ~15 hens that are fun to watch, have colorful eggs, and keep me entertained.

BTW, I have an agreement with my DH that I will not get a rooster. Are we pretty sure that I will only bring home pullets?

Thank you, again.

peachick, as soon as I can pay for the eggs, I'll be added to the list "officially"....We have a bator, and can have it ready at anytime.
Tho, I'm curious about your viability so far, so I may wait until your hatch just to see what happens. My hubby is worried about paying for eggs that won't hatch.......he read that Aracaunas have a lower hatchability rate........

ohh I dont know about aracaunas. but these ameracauna chicks come out of the shell screaming and hungry!! they are very "thrifty" at hatch (as we refer to newborn puppies).
If the egg develops, hatch rate is very high. The only thing that is going to slow down sucess (that I anticipate) is the cold temperatures... but its the price we pay for getting eggs in January! LOL But by getting early chicks you can expect them to be laying eggs in the fall.... so its a trade off.
