I've always wanted a llama, until I found out how unfriendly they are. Are alpacas more people-friendly than llamas? Sounds like fun, though! Enjoy them! You'll have to start selling some of the wool online here.
Hey! Thanks for all your replies. I posted another thread with pics of them. The thread is called something like, PICTURES!! LOOK HERE!
So if you want some great pics, that's where to go!

I'm sure that varies from Llama to Llama.....males are 'supposed' to be the more independent of the genders & my intact male comes when called & is quite social to our personal family. Now he's not exposed to many people so I can't say he's "people" friendly, ....but they learn easily as they're very intelligent. & slowly with small handfuls of hay he's learned to tolerate & now even enjoy petting. Intact males are supposed to be the hardest to be friend & be most difficult to deal with. I even find that corrections are easily made by saying loudly "Ah, Ah, Ah" & he immediately stops what he's doing & looks at me. (like if he tries to sneak into someone else's grain bowl). I have dairy goats & other animals so he gets attention daily, but I can say not all Llamas are difficult. I'm sure there are the flip sides & total nightmare to deal with animals out there. But by the typical account my intact should be by far my worst Llama to deal with & he's actually quite sweet.
I totally
him. My Gentle Giant.
chickenmum -Good Luck with your Alpacas! They're the sweetest. Like Mini Llamas mixed with a sheep.

Just saw on the news today, a male Llama attack this man, lot of damage to his leg. This one would let kids ride him. Guess like any large animals, mostly intact males or female with young. Alway be careful when around them.
