I was wondering how often you can give your 17 week old chickens meal worms. They really seem to love them, but I don't want to overdo it. Also, what are some other good things to give them at that age?

I'll probably get nailed for my answer. I give every morning. About a handful per 2 birds. I have a Buff, ISABrown, (second winter laying) 2 SLW first winter laying about 20-22 weeks old. The Buff and ISAB used to gobble them right up but now they don't eat them all. The 2 SLW are just now eating them but not all. I gave them their true favorite this morning. Crusted egg shells with Grape Nuts. I had so many eggs shells. Dried them in the oven at 350 for 10 minutes last nite crushed them some more and added the last of my grape nuts gotta get some more.

Craisins, raisins, unsalted peanuts, blueberries are always hits here. Live mealworms can be gutloaded with the birds normal feed to make them more nutritious and thus can be fed a bit more often. Dry mealworms should be more of a treat since they are what they are, you can't fancy them up.:)

Thank you. We're still new to this and we're trying to learn as we go. I never would have thought of giving them grape nuts.:)
My birds will NOT eat raisins, blueberries, peanuts I would never give for fear of choking just like a kid. My birds will not eat anything mushy. No oatmeal, no scrambled eggs, no wet food MUSHY is out. That's how I happened on GrapeNUTS I put it with their pellets and scratch. Picky Picky birds.

They won't choke, seriously they can swallow things nearly the size of their head.:p
