mealworm farm

Same here. I give them all the dead bugs and worms that don't make it and some live ones now and then as long as I have plenty. We go through them fast in the nice weather between chickens snacking and trout fishing.

I tried the fodder but no luck.. had one good round the chickens didn't care too much about it but did eat some of it .. the next try molded over and over . Mealworms are a lot easier I forget about and they are fine.. if they die I feed them to the chickens, turtles, fish.

What type of "bedding" do you use for your all-in-one bins? Do you eventually sift out the "frass" from bugs?

I'm not really picky and neither are they. I use corn meal, oat meal, wheat bran... Anything like that. I sift it now and then but I don't really try to separate the frass because it's usually full of eggs. I should let them grow and take them out so I can use it on plants but there is so little of it after they chow down that I don't really worry about it.
