Mealworm farming

Thank you all for the input. I have had a hard time with that back ground, too and hated doing the words that way but DH wanted me to put that up so I did. Now I can change it to something easier to read. I have very old eyes, too and find that difficult.

I'll let you know when I have it rearranged or re-done.

Great page! After reading it I went and put a toilet paper roll in there and within minutes, they were all over and inside of it.

I do use a shoebox for mine but it's a plastic one (the kind that most people never put shoes in. lol) but I might get something bigger. They look crowded in there. Also I didn't realize they could eat bread too.

Yes you can feed them to the chickens, they are easy to catch but they are where your baby worms come from. So you feed your beetles to chickens and you get less babies.

I have mealies that grow under the corn bin in my coop...at the end of 2 weeks when the corn is nearly gone and I lift it up to dump out the rest the girls are waiting and they devour those beetles as soon as they see them! It is really fun to watch! I have no idea how they started there...but they are up in my barn sometimes too....well, in my back room also...

I've now started either giving the beetles that are over 3 months old to the girls or freezing them with the mealworms. Figure they'll be used either way. The girls do love to pick them out of the bin though! It's pretty much a free-for-all! LOL!

Alright, I am going to have to raise more. I just got several locals that want to buy them from me all winter. How did this happen?
I was raising them to feed my kids and now I have to add more bins, move some beetles over and get another colony going. This time I am going to put the beetles from Exotic Nutrition and mine from the Speedy Worm line in together. I hope to see a difference in .....something....I am not sure what. But it may be another interesting adventure in meal worm farming.

All I did was tell a few folks that I added a new page to my website and then I start getting phone calls. I guess you take it where you can get it.

Hmmmm---I might try that! I am getting flak from DH about "my hobbies" not bringing in any $$$. (like his do) Selling mealies...they're quiet, no smell, dont poop in the house...yeah, thanks for the idea Amy! LOL--Terri O
