Mealworm farming

The many facets of meal worm farming. How many of us began our worm farms with an eye toward feeding our chickens?? Now the idea has begun to blossom with the combined energy of so many people. And I love to see all the new farms starting up. From humble beginnings hannakatt has created an empire!!

Ordered 2000 mealies last night. Just finished cutting the bottom out of a drawer so that their new home will be ready for them. I have a smaller bin farm set up slready and will move the bettles from that into the new 3 drawer system in a few days. I can't wait to be overrun with baby mealworms. My chickens won't let me be overrun for long.

This is so much fun. I spend as much time reading about mealworms as I do the chickens. What's wrong with this picture? I better get outside while it is still light and spend some time with the chickens. They will have to settle for BOSS since they won't be getting any worms until I get my 2nd generation.

I thought I was the only weirdo that did this!! i have both mealworms and super worms and honestly i think the bigger ones are easier to breed and the chippies live them more!!

When I told my friends I was going to start raising chickens I got the whole one eyed sideways look, raised eyebrow thing.

I think the only thing saving me is they haven't found a rehab that takes chicken addicts!

Ok, My new bin is dying. Not sure why I think maybe lack of moisture. I have a brand new bin filled with microwaved wheat bran. I am putting pupa in there as they turn into pupa but I'm also taking pupa to school for my project so the bin is large with only a few pupa so I'm only putting in a slice of potato or cucumber every so often removing the old. The pupa are hatching out but then they just sit there don't move much and die. They are in the house so the temps are around 75 degrees.

Any suggestions as to what is happening. I've only had about 5 pupa hatch that I didn't steal for school and 3 of those died. I don't see any mites or mold.
