Mealworm farming

I am new to raising mealworms and wanted to know where is the best place to get the oat brand. Also the best place to buy the worms to get started. Thanks!

I buy my Wheat Bran from a feed store of Feed Mill. It cost me about $11-12 for 50lbs usually. I bought my worms from nyworms.com and they were very easy to work with! They had great prices and shipped the next Monday!

I bought 10,000 the beginning of January and I have a little under 20lbs left so far and I have 2 3 bin setups with 5 bins that have wheat bran in them.

lol sorry I bought 10,000 worms at the beginning of Jan and a 50lb sack of wheat bran. Of that 50lb sack I have about 20 lbs left.

Sorry today was a long day! It is time for sleep now!

Question for those who use under the tank reptile heaters. Do you stick it on to the plastic of your bin? I bought one and read the instructins and warnings and ended up returning it because I was afraid of putting it on the plastic. They say it is for glass only. Seems like several people are using them and was wondering if you stuck it on or what brand you are using?

Thanks!

Mine is a ZooMed, it is only 8 watts (small or extra small). A night light(old style) is 7 watts, so it isn't much heat and it is spread out over a 6" x 8" area.. They are designed for the reptiles to lay on, so they only get warm. If they got hot, the reptile would get burnt.

I have corrugated plastic trays inside my bin. I didn't take the backing off and just set it upright in the lower tray so it is on the side of the lower tray and the upper tray. My worms and beetles seem to all be on the side with the heater.

Zookeeper. How long did it take for you to go full cycle. and how do you make green eggs(avatar?)
I got my worms in November. It took longer because my house is cool. I keep the thermostat at 67, but it is probably cooler in the room they are in. I haven't gone full cycle yet, I only have VERY tiny worms. I'm told at my temps, it should take 6 to 7 months.

My blue, green and pink eggs come from my "Americana's" from Tractor Supply and "Araucana/Americana's" from McMurrary. They started laying early and now they are laying extra large eggs. They are very good layers, 5 or more eggs a week from each.

That's an old pic, I'll have to take a new one soon!

It won't harm the chickens to eat the wheat bran, right?
