Mealworm farming

Corners. The worms love to congregate in the corners. This is normal. Besides crowding together for warmth, the worms and beetles are also thigmotactic. That means liking and needing to be in contact with their own kind with as many of their surfaces touching each other as is possible.

When I first learned that word, I thought it was so neat I told the first person I encountered which happened to be a young man who had come to my house to clean the chimney. When I told him the word and what it meant, he got excited and said he was going right home and tell his girl friend that he was thigmotactic.

I'm definitely with the right crowd!! lol

Do you spend $300/month on mealworms just for your chickens or other animals? If so how many chickens do you have?

Reptlies and frogs, never thought of feeding them to chickens. But now i will. I give the chicken a few this morining and they went crazy.
You guys have way better info than the reptile group, you ask a question they they you should know.
Thanks for being nices

Ordered 10,000 from Rainbow mealworms. We are in Washington so shipping from California only took 2 days. $52 with shipping.

Maybe 2 dozen of the wee beasties didn't make the trip. The chickens happily disposed of travel losses. They are much more active than some I have purchased locally.

Live ones were popular with 14 of 16 peepers. The two Barnevelders kind of stood back and watched. They were too slow to get individually offered worms.

The wife (who's account I am using) was making faces and odd noises as I was moving them into their three drawers. The transfer took place outside.

It started to rain here in the South Sound area of western Washington so I brought them back in. If any of you in the state heard a blood curdling scream around 8 pm, it was my wife when she discovered the 3 year old had stripped naked and had all 3 drawers open and two hands full of worms. I think my ears might stop ringing before the weekend is over.....

Haha! The other night we were looking at the worms and my 2 yr old LOVES them. I said it was bedtime and the worms needed to go back on their shelf. Well, he didn't like that so he grabbed a handful and threw them all over my bed!! I about scared him to death when I screamed "nooooooooo!!!!" LOL!

I do not rise them to sale they are just my pets. I have three toe box turtle, red ear slider, fire belly toads ( are real frogs but people call them toads), lepord gecko, and common snapping turtle. I used just have one turtle for long time than. I felt sorry for the rest resue them. The gecko has three legs, the box turtle was up used, the common snapper turtle was going to be kill. The frogs were only ones that I brought at pet store.
I decide I start breeding worms. Oh I have 3 chickens I rescue from a dog trying to kill them. The main reason I became a member of this site is because I am trying to hatch duck eggs but I real couldn't fine anything on hatching them without a incabactor. Than I found the mealworms form. It was helpful for that.
So thanks.
