I am so enjoying this mealworm group. I am proud to say that I have read every single one of the 78 pages and in doing so I have really learned a lot. I am off to
Walmart tomorrow to buy a three bin set on wheels. And then I will hit the health food store to pick up organic wheat bran, cornmeal, oatmeal, some powdered milk and anything else that looks good for the new bins. After a couple of days in the freezer (I refuse to nuke anything) just to be safe, all of the wormies will have new digs.
I have some lay mash that is very fine (almost powder) and my chickens seem to waste a lot of it. The ingredients are : Corn, Soybean meal, Grit Calcium, Phosphorus, Vitamin A,B,D & E, Complete vitamin & mineral premix, Nutrifibe complex, and Regano 500 a natural oregano for coccidiosis prevention. Extra vitamin A & D for stress and improved hatchability. Does anyone see any reason I could not use this in addition to the HFS items my worm substrate?
One question. How in the world does anyone get anything else done in their lives? Watching chickens, watching worms, and reading the BYC forums could easily take up most of my tme. Never mind the dogs and cats and my bookkeeping job. Thank goodness I can work at home.
