Well the 5000 mealies look awesome! Took a handful out to the girls. My girls loved them. Some were little piggies! Some didn't know what to think. My son grabbed a few to take to his Gecko. Happy animals here today. I finally got smart when transferring 250 crickets into their keeper. Do it OUTSIDE!!! Normally I do the transfer in the house and then spend a week rounding up strays. You can teach an old dog new tricks.
Yinepu~ Just got an email from them today. You were right. They said they would be shipping them on Monday the 25th and to expect them the following Wed. or Thurs. Looks like we will be getting our worms about the same time. Let's hope they arrive ok and our order is correct.

I'm hoping they arrive alive and well.. I know it's a bad time of year for shipping anything alive.. but a couple of years ago I fed off the last of my mealies and now I am kicking myself for it.. I'm planning on watching tracking and being at the post office bright and early to pick mine yup
I'll keep my fingers crossed for any live critters in the mail for everyone!
I am so enjoying this mealworm group. I am proud to say that I have read every single one of the 78 pages and in doing so I have really learned a lot. I am off to Walmart tomorrow to buy a three bin set on wheels. And then I will hit the health food store to pick up organic wheat bran, cornmeal, oatmeal, some powdered milk and anything else that looks good for the new bins. After a couple of days in the freezer (I refuse to nuke anything) just to be safe, all of the wormies will have new digs.
I have some lay mash that is very fine (almost powder) and my chickens seem to waste a lot of it. The ingredients are : Corn, Soybean meal, Grit Calcium, Phosphorus, Vitamin A,B,D & E, Complete vitamin & mineral premix, Nutrifibe complex, and Regano 500 a natural oregano for coccidiosis prevention. Extra vitamin A & D for stress and improved hatchability. Does anyone see any reason I could not use this in addition to the HFS items my worm substrate?
One question. How in the world does anyone get anything else done in their lives? Watching chickens, watching worms, and reading the BYC forums could easily take up most of my tme. Never mind the dogs and cats and my bookkeeping job. Thank goodness I can work at home.

Gallo, thanks for the info. I will put the substrate in the freezer for a couple days and then a day or so outside to warm it up.
Aggie...I have a slightly different solution for your bug solution. You are using suntan oil to spray. It has lots of toxic chemicals in it. If you are using it for the oil to suffocate them the mites, then you don't need to have the chemicals in there. You can just use olive oil in a spray pump bottle. I used olive oil to clean my cats ears of ear mites. The vet wanted to charge me like $50 to put a chemical in his ears and then wanted me to come back for another treatment. I just looked up on the internet on how to treat the ear mites naturally and someone mentioned a drop of olive oil in the cats ears and rub it in. I did it for about a week or so and the mites were gone. DONE!!! No $50, just a fraction of a penny for the amount that I used. It would work just as well on your mites without the toxicity. I'm all about health and avoiding toxicity, so you will hear this stuff from me.
Felicia...you still might get your mealies today...I got mine today from the exoticnutrition.com. They were great! I opened the box and pulled out the bag and I could hear them all crawling around. Very healthy and active coming out of the bag. It's 94 here today and they delivered. The box was quite hot when I got it because it's been sitting in the mail truck.
