Ok, I have oodles of beetles revealing themselves everyday. My bins seem to be progressing rapidly. I have had it in the house while working to get set up. I have discovered that everytime I get close to it my throat starts burning and my chest feels weird. So I will be moving the drawer system to an outdoor area, either the pole barn or the pump house. And I am also going to get a breathing mask. Maybe in smaller numbers I would never notice, but with a colony that large (45k), it's undeniable.... there is a smell... to the dead and the frass if not the worms themselves. While the smell is not something I enjoy, it's actually the burning that is the reason I am getting a mask. I do have regular allergies but no asthma.

My chickens love the meal worms! And I enjoy raising them. It will be a lot easier once my set up is complete. I am going to work on screening before moving it our completely.

Hey guys! A neighbor gave me a plastic shoe box of mealworms, pupa, and beetles. I am WAY NEW!! I am wondering if there's an infestation of another type of bug or if I missed a life stage while researching. I noticed them when I was separating the stages. They crawl. I took a picture of one next to a pupa. What are these? Is it an infestation of another bug?? Pupa on the left. Unknown in the right. Thanks!
