yes, the black ones are most certainly dead and I would pick them out with twizers since there are sooo many of them and you are just starting your farm. Where did you get them? You need to send that picture to them....that's not right.

I don't see anything going to pupa...can't see very many healthy ones at all. They look like of chewed up??? You really need to contact the company cause what they sent is about useless.

I agree, they are dead.

I don't see any pupae either. I might think about sending the picture to the seller and asking for a replacement shipment.

Welcome!!! Raising them is very interesting Nadine; educational and FUN for the chickens! I'm currently training my peeps to come to me with a few worms every other day and they love the worms as much as the adults.

You won't want to order them from the same company as 'sadies chicks' .... that's just sad and I hope they replace them.

I got the worms from Uncle Jim's and I sent them the same photos last night, so I am hoping they can send replacements. I looked in on them last night and there were maybe 5 worms eating the apple, that's it

Wow! That apple is gonna last a long time! Did the worm package sit in a hot mailbox all-day or what? I think Uncle Jim's is a fairly big supplier, so I'll bet they take care of you. Most put a note in with the delivery stating that if you have any problems with the delivery of your order...let them know immediately for resolution.

Good Luck and keep us posted on how well "Uncle Jim" takes care of you. Your update on the resolution will either bring them new customers or steer us away!

Thanks! The hottest it got here yesterday was maybe 60 degrees so I can't imagine that would be the issue and my DH was home when they arrived anyways. I will keep everyone posted! I am so bummed out, I was really looking forward to my new hobby! Oh well, it will get resolved one way or another

and I will be a mealworm farmer yet!

Can I feed the dead ones to the chicks or should I throw them away?

Yes, you can feed them to your chickens. There had to be some sort of mixup at Uncle Jims....even at the worst, I can't imagine them purposely sending those.

They'll make it right...just gotta wait alittle longer since they only ship on Mondays. I'm really sorry this happened

ETA: As of 7/28/11, I am warning folks not to order from Uncle Jims. Order after order contains mostly all dead worms, with resolutions taking way too long. There are excellent sources for bulk worms listed on the first post of this thread. Any questions...PM!
