Mealworm farming

Mine have been kept at 72 degrees and are doing fine but I have no comparison. They are supposed to develop faster at higher temps but they don't seem to really stop/slow down until 40-50 degrees. The warmer the better but even at 76, your colony should do fine and I don't think you'll see a difference.

Hopefully someone who had studied different locations/temps will come with more accurate information!

eta: It does seem that LIGHT has an affect as well. Dark is way better for activity....this I have seen.

How wonderful to start chicken farming and mealworm farming together! Yea...traveling is very dehidrating don'tchaknow?!?!

Adam and Eve now have company. I have about 9 pupa that I can see on top, haven't sifted through to see if any are in the lower sections.

What is wrong with my chickens? I tried to feed them the dead mealies that came from UJ's and they were not very interested. I thought maybe it was because they were dead so I even tried a few of the live ones. Still, not that much interest. I was expecting the frenzy that everyone else experiences. They do free range and get lots of bugs out of the garden...also, lots of fresh tomatoes, watermelon etc...maybe they are just full??? The dead mealies have been laying out on a rock in my back yard since Thurs!!!

Looks like I'm joining the fun. Just ordered 3k mealies off of Ebay. Got my 3 drawer set up. Have some oatmeal and chick starter to use for bedding/food. Now to wait for the mealies to show up.
