Mealworm farming

Just a question...do the worms go through a lethargic stage after getting full or just before pupating? Mine have all been active and fine.
Now I am starting to get more pupae everyday and the worms seem to be more slow moving than they have been. Thanks

Yes they will share and for my chickens sake they will only be allowed to feed 2-3 worms each. The others will come back home

Have at it. I know I have trouble finding what I consider to be efficient plans for math. I always try to make sure that the time input is worth it compared to the math and critical thinking skills derived. And it helps to have a little reward at the end for them to remember. When I search, I usually find 'fun' lessons that take way too long for the actual math learning that takes place.

Yes. I don't know if they are more lethargic or if it's more noticable the bigger they are. Of my original 1000, there was always a percentage on top the substrate not doing anything. Could it be an age thing? Getting closer to pupation? Some of the activity is due to shedding the exoskeleton and maybe once they are fully grown, they don't need to do it as often. ummmm...

I got my replacement mealies from Uncle Jims this morning.. WOW.. so many fat lively wormies!!!! So even though the first shipment was pretty much a loss.. these guys more than made up for it.. I didnt bother to count them since i saw very few dead ones.. and in retrospect I think maybe I should have counted.. since it looked like a lot more than 2000 worms! I even got a few beetles

That is so exciting. Glad all are alive and well.

I am new at this too and pulled out 156 pupae from the worm drawer....thankful I had put some worms away in a cup in the fridge just to have more than 1 cycle at once. Don't want all pupae and no beetles or wormies for a while...now the next step...trying to be patient for beetles >>>>>>and have I said that I am really impatient

This is more fun that I thought, I feel like a nerd for sure

Adam has arrived!!!!! My first beetle Wooo Hooooo!!!!! At last count I have over 20 pupa, so my little colony is on it's way. I would take and post pics but I'm suppose to be getting ready for work. I'll post some when I get home Fri.

I have a couple hundred pupa in my bucket and have been looking into my pupa bucket multiple times a day to pull out beetles. I looked last night and pulled them all out and this morning, I had about 25+ beetles I pulled out. That was a big jump to the less than 10 each morning previously.
