Wow! I wish I could be as self sufficient as you are. Congrats on using your smarts!

If you look at the bottom of the page - there is a link to SufficientSelf.com

Same format as BYC, but all about self sufficient living.

Lots of good advice and friendly people on there also.
There are quite a few BYCers who are members over there also.

DLEE, there is also the backyard herds forum and I bet you could get some good advice on working with your mules on there.

First time posting on BYC and started my mealworm farming last week (bought 500 from Petco however 75 were dead). Have three pupa and my first bettle hatched today. Using three separate sterilite 16 qt containers with wheat bran in my home office.

Officially an urban farmer now (City just passed chicken ordinance effective Nov 1st so I have seven 7 - 8 week chicks), started pallet style composting and my first garden this past summer. Five cats, 1 RIR, 1 Americana, and two white chicks (unknown breeds - two separate feed stores - one said Americana and other said buff Orpington yet they are exactly alike pure white except one has green legs and other has darker legs), Black Frizzle, Smooth Blue Frizzle, Smooth Splash Frizzle. Just started my own Mealworm farm and looking to start vermicomposting as well. (sorry for extra tidbit - trying to post this as my signature line - not to hijack post).

A lot of people on here have admitted to forgetting them for up to a year so don't feel bad. If mine were not in my house I may forget about them. During the summer I would forget to feed them for over a week but they never seemed to have minded it. Or at least they didn't tell me so! However, when I did add fruit or veggies to their bins I would hear the applause so I knew they appreciated it.

I try to forget mine, but they're in plain view all day. They do become part of the background and ignored really often. I do manage to ignore them for a week sometimes, even 2 weeks at one point when I was just waiting for worms to even appear. I don't think any of us are raising the jumbo but I could be wrong.
