Mealworm farming

My worms I ordered online and got last week are already starting to turn to Pupae. When I separate the Pupae from the worms, do I need to provide food or moisture to the Pupae or just leave them alone until they turn to beetles? I have a very thin layer of wheat bran in the drawer that I am putting the Pupae in. It it barely covers the bottom of the drawer. Is that enough? I don't think they eat or do anything in this stage of life right?

Probably enough for now but once they turn into beetles they'll need more.

I'm getting concerned about my newest colony. I bought some at the bird store that weren't looking good and put in there with my own. Now I have a LOT of dead worms. I sure hope it's just the ones I put in there and that my own aren't dying too. I really can't see any reason for it and it's just worms, not beetles or pupae dying.

Another update on my mealies in a bator.
I do not have a hygrometer in this bator so I do not know what the temp or humidity really is but since it belongs to a friend and she hasn't brought me eggs to fill it for her then I decided to use it. Ha! Love it! I used it to hatch eggs for her all last year and it held temps and humidity fairly well, though not nearly as exact as my Genesis 1588 and more along the temperamental lines of my Sportsman.
It is a still air so fairly perfect for these trays of baby meal worms. I put them in here last week and they are super happy. You can see the tray to the front has plenty of shed skin. A sure sign that they are growing well. There was only wheat bran when I put them in there.

The humidity dropped down to 35% in my Sportsman when I did not add water for 2 days. Though my chicken eggs do not seem to mind, the meal worms certainly did! They slowed way down so I gave them apple and added water to the tray and the next day they were running and playing again.

I know this may not work for everyone but while it is cold here and we have lower humidity then I am glad I found something to work for me.

So, I just started on Saturday with 100 from my local hardware store, they are in wheat bran, got fed apple slices which they gnawed well, now have a lettuce leaf in there with them. Does anyone know if Petsmart sells live mealworms?

My local Petsmart does. Petco does as well. One of them (I can't remember which) also sells in bulk with free shipping to your house.

I found my local Petco to be cheaper then Petsmart in my neck of the woods. There were selling them for about 6.50 per 500, but they were extremely small!
