Mealworm farming

I've found that picking them out is the only easy way. I use a plastic spoon because when I try to pick them up by hand, I feel like I'm going to squish them. I pick out the beetles, btw. They are easier to spot.

What is the best way to separate the beetles from the worms??

I bought a metal mesh "strainer", like for noodles or veggies. It works REALLY well if you are using bran, but won't work if you chose oatmeal, etc. Just my idea, don't know what others do, though!!

I was cleaning out some apple peel they didn't eat and I scooped up a and full and put it in a pile and the WHOLE PILE was moving.... COOL Maybe I have millions of babies in there LOL.

Took long enough. Maybe next year I can start feeding them in earnest.

Not really...they never mess up the little towels I put in there, anyway...

I laughed when I read this and then my first thought was "that sounds like something onafixedincome would say!" Then I realized it WAS you who said it!!!!! I really laughed then!!

Have over 20 pupas now.... some are looking like their going to turn to beetles within a few days :D

YEAH!!! That is so cool to get your first ones! They take a little while to morph into beetles. They start to turn more brownish and you can see their little eyeballs. I wonder if they can see me looking at them?? LOL!!

Somebody had a cool idea a while back putting all the beetles in a container that the live ones can climb out of, leaving only the dead ones.
