There is a national shortage of medium to large size mealworms. It's been going on for awhile now. Most reptile boards have several messages posted about it and some alternative resources. Some stores are still well stocked but if the problem continues those reserves are gonna go. Though most suppliers have commented on having worms ready by next month.
Crickets at this time are fine. There was a possible explantion from one supplier siting new mealworm feed had additives that stunted and/or caused worms to become sterile beetles. Gaint meals are available in most places still and being sold as substitutes for meds and larges.
I found this out last week when I tried order some for resale at my shop. Glad I breed some myself though now I have to watch it that I keep enough to breed more.
