Mealworms

Yesterday, Saturday Agust 4th I stared a mealworm farm
It is easy, I hope I don't kill them.Ought $ 4 worth about the size of a coffee cup + sand or worm poop. Any one doing this also? They are expensive .5 cents each wriggly creature.

At the rate my chickens and ducks go through dried mealworms, I need to do this!

I grow mealworms & it's fairly pretty easy. I purchased 3000 small & medium worms from Rainbow Mealworms when I first got started. I use Purina chick starter feed(non medicated) for the substract (food) & place sliced potatoes on top of the substract for moisture along with a paper towel that I lightly spray with water everyday. I heat the chick feed in my oven for about 15 mins at 425 degrees to kill any unwanted mites & etc, then let it completely cool before adding any worms or beetles. I also add a little powder milk along with cheerios grounded just for a boost. I check my bins daily once or twice for new beetles & pupae. I keep all three, worms,aliens, & beetles in separate bins due to the worms & beetles eating the aliens & baby eggs/worms. I move the beetles, new & old weekly to a new bin with new food.
