In all honesty, i dont know..iv never tried. The setups are the same for both meal and superworms..but if you just want treats for your chickens, i would stick with the mealworms.

I've got a 90watt reptile "cable". No thermostat as they are pricey, so when it warms up during the day (sub-tropical here), I turn it off.

I just started my mealworm colony yesterday, got mine from Petsmart. I bought 200. It looks to me like they are dying. I have oatmeal and the fines from the chicken feed. I have a slice of apple in there. Tried carrot but it seemed to dry out way too fast. I am up here in the frigid northland so I do have a light above them. I don't have them in a very large container at present since there aren't that many of them. Is it possible that I am overcrowding though? Thanks for your help.

I raise mealworms and superworms and carrots do seem to dry out to quick. Mine prefer thin slices of apple but potato works too. Then I was out of both and put moistened ball of unscented white toilet paper and that worked so well I kept doing it. For those of you who don't like the dried up potato pieces in your worm farm. TP may work for you. I use a "ball" about the size of a cotton ball. Wet but not drippy. The worms love it and reduce it to shreds and no doubt lay eggs in it and hide in it. I use a different spot each time so mold hasn't been a problem. I put the used superworm bedding in the compost pile. I can be sure its free of worms and eggs but the mealworms it seems like they have eggs in their used bedding forever!!! Prolific lil things! LOL The bedding is supposed to be very good fertilizer. I don't remember the NPK though.

Set-up sounds alright gagroundhog.
All I can think of is that they would be burying themselves a lot to get away from the light.
