I have a two year old Buff Orpington that harasses and bothers my other hens when they begin to sit. I have about 9 nesting boxes for 13 hens. For some reason they all seem to like the same box the best.
When my other hens sit in the box the buff sits and gives the alarm squak without stop. I thought she needed to lay and many times I gently lifted her into a vacant box. Only have her jump out and return to bother my hens in that same box. When they finish laying my buff does not lay.. insted she waits until about 2 pm to lay.

She repeats this behavior outside when they use a particular spot they all like near my firewood shed. When they free range the henhouse door is left open so they can back inside to the favorite spot or use the firewood shed spot.

She squaks when ever she sees certain hens laying outside and tries to get them off the nest. I have again carefully taken her back inside the hen house sat her down of her prefered spot.. Only to have her jump back down and bother my other hens while they try to lay.

Again she does this in the morning but she lays her egg in the afternoon. She is very high strung and constantly alarms the rest of my otherwise very calm happy flock.

Any ideas of what this is about?

you could always trying blocking off the favorite nest so no one uses it and wait until they get used to laying in the other nests before reopening the favorite nest

it might encourage them to use other nests .... just a thought
