Mean Chicken all of a sudden..Is she a he? New Pic of her/him...

If they're overcrowded, then yes, this absolutely COULD be the reason. Overcrowding is one of the biggest triggers of bullying/fighting, especially if the weather's lousy and they are spending more time inside.

I'm wondering if Thelma is perhaps a rooster? Red comb and wattles, not laying, not squatting, grabbing the back of the neck, chasing a hen? Hmmmm.... how old are your chickens?

I could bring her in during the day as suggested and back out in the evening before hubby gets home.... Here is a pic of her...she's the silver laced wyondotte. I got them August 9th 2010, this pic is not recent as you can tell by the lack of comb/waddles. I can post a pic of her tomorrow. Holy crap if she turns out to be a rooster I don't know what I will do! She doesn't look any different than the other girls, no fancy tail or anything....

The coop was designed for up to 6 full sized chickens and I only have 5. Here is a pic:

Hard to tell from one semi-distant pic but I'm seeing thick legs, pointed hackle feathers and looks like some saddle feathers coming in. And yep, 6 months is about right for the "I'm the Dude" behavior to start.

Why am I reasonably certain?
<<<<<<< read my title.

I earned it the hard way.

ETA, some cockerals don't really develop very fast. I've had some not crow until 12 months, and some that never got a flashy tail at all. It varies a lot.

Edited again because I really hope you'll come back soon and tell me I'm wrong, Thelma laid an egg!

and one more....the one in the forefront is the golden laced wayondotte that IS laying, and speckled sussex next to "Thelma" is Rose, the poor girl getting picked on.

Hmmmm...... legs look thinner of course, being from a different angle. And I can't see the saddle feathers on the butt. BUT- I'm still going to say cockeral and hope you can gloat when that bird lays an egg!

you have a hen who is just being difficult. But yeah, I'm going with cockeral.

Wyandittes can be slow, I had three I would have sworn were the world's prettiest hens. Uhmmm.... nope. How many people can buy "sexed pullets" and get all roosters?

I DID learn a lot from that....

Don't you ever make thick legged comments around my bunch of hens, they'll sure to give you the stink eye! I think they are a bit sensitive about their looks.

I would say wait, unless it starts crowing.

I have a black australorp that I was so sure was a he that I was starting to go mad. My other two have been laying for weeks and all I can think of is waking up one morning to a crowing black chicken. "sHe" was officially declared a She after 28 weeks old, which isn't very long compared to EE's and late bloomers, but it certainly isn't considered early by any means. She's #3 of the pecking order, yet she's BFF with #1. Thickest legs you'll ever see, and is overly concerned where #1 may be at all times. I swear I've seen her call and yield #1 over for treats. I've seen her call everyone inside the coop, and tuck #1 in at night. Her comb and wattles are big and red, but not anything monster sized like my #1 RR, but bigger than #2 BO. She was overly aggressive to #4 so much that I was looking for alternatives. There must be some kind of hormonal balance after regular production of eggs. Each girl have calmed down quite a bit after.

So yeah, I would wait. If you were talking about my bird, you would have had to wait until mid Feb to get an egg from her.
