I have an almost 2yr mallard duck I have been having to keep him separate from the rest of the flock for 6 months ( added newest addition's, female ducklings to )because he keeps attacking & trying to hurt the other chickens & ducks. some same age some younger than him. Any ideas or suggestion's to have him get along with others? He's never attacked before, but now is. We brought home the newest duckling's to give him company but only want's to hang out with the other drake he's been with for two yrs. It's not fair for him to be by himself most of the time & or with the other drake he's buds with & would like them all to be together. Any help, suggestion's or ideas would be great. Thanks.

It could be dominance....
That's what I was thinking myself. the ducklings are almost 16wks old. He's been looking at them through a fenced in area. The other drake that's two 2yrs gets along with the ducklings just the mallard wont. Should I just throw them in together few hrs a day & see how they do or keep them separated? I hate for him to kill all 9 ducklings.

You def don't want a hormonal drake in with ducklings that aren't sexually mature yet. They need to be laying age usually around 4.5 months old or older before being with a drake.

Once they get old enough start by putting a couple females in the pen with him or him in their pen. If you don't introduce them all at once maybe he can get use to the idea of having more in his flock. I'd wait till late august though if your females are sexually mature by then maybe hormones will be quieted down some.

Thank you that definitely makes sense.

I'm leaning towards mating and not aggressive at all. Duck breeding is rather violent at times and he is determined to spread his genes before the other Drake does. Bachelors generally get along great until females are introduced. Set him free to do his thing and he will calm down. Separated and only out periodically has him stressed out..

Maybe but I sure would keep an eye on that drake.
Definitely but it will be bad before it gets better. Ducks understand Ducks. We aren't Ducks so too much interference only prolongs the transition..
