mean roo

I know chickens are mostly tough luck animals but my roos has extra mean lately. he is not quite full grown and he is grabbing the younger hens and roos on the necks and hanging on HARD should i do anything or just let them work it out themselves? They have lived together for a while now. most of the fights had stopped but they just started up again

Sounds like chickens to me.

But if I ever have an extremely mean roo, he'll be history.

My two EE roo's started snatching the girls by the cheeks as well when they all started to mature.

It got to the point the girls didn't want to come off the roost and out in the run in the morning.

I rehomed the roo's to a no-kill farm nearby. My eight girls were so happy and the hen house and run so peaceful after the guys left.

I'm only in it for the eggs anyway.

My young roo did that for awhile but now he is fairly gentle with the hens, they are around 6 months old.

hmmm sounds like my roos when they want to mount a hen...which Im told is normal behavior....

Normal behavior unless you separate the roos and hens.
