Spot on advice from the tough love crowd. He'll push you as far as you allow. Roosters fight, it's what they understand. You have to fight him, and win- it's the only way he'll quit. There's nothing cruel about it, just rooster psychology. Kicking the rooster has always worked best for me. Not a full on punt, mind you, but a swipe with your foot, strong enough to knock him over, should do the trick. You may need to do it several times. Catching a rooster, pinning him to the ground and holding him there firmly for 30 seconds or so, can also be very effective. However, some just never chill out, and a mean rooster is just not safe, even a small one. The most aggressive rooster I ever had was a little silkie. He made a delicious pot of soup.
