I have an 18-month-old rooster. He's a Barr Rock, very beautiful. All of my hens are gone now, so I thought I would try to keep him. He's always been a bit protective of his flock, and would charge at me, but now that they are all gone, he has gotten worse. I do not intend to replenish my flock. What should I do with him? I can't even go into my pasture without him charging at me, so I carry a big stick. I don't like the idea of him trying to hurt me. What should I do? I have tried to give him away, but my other friends who have chickens don't want another rooster. I am 71 YO and really don't want to be attacked by him and fall down etc.

Our local grocery has a bulletin board to post pretty much anything on for free. You've probably got something similar somewhere near you. Post him as "free to a good home" and you might be surprised by the response.

Ya if I was looking to rehome him because I didn't want to do the deed don't ask any $$$ for him and make it clear he's only good for eating. Someone will take him.
