When I was going to school, I would have at least 4 hours of homework every night. I'd start right after I got home and then only finish around 7:00p.m. I'd finish up my homework after dinner. When I was in college I felt like I was doing homework all day long. But it wasn't such a big deal, because I learned time management and prioritization when I was in high school and got 4 hours of homework every night
I may not have memorized all the facts that I was supposed to, but I learned some valuable skills that I still use. Think of it that way and it might not be so bad

I've won school science fairs w/o parent help...
And 'mostly' work is what adult life is, you kids got it easy speech is what killed me.
My parents' attitude about projects influenced mine...
"I pledge my honor as a student that I have neither given nor received any unauthorized aid on this assignment" - the honor pledge way back in high school. Parents were not intended to help at all.
Just wait until you get to college. They you get about 2 hours of work a night for EACH class! Some semesters I get lucky. Some I end up using my entire weekend to write papers!

My parents taught me the same. I very rarely had parent help, unless it was for little things, or help getting material. The ideas and the projects were always mine. I had so many friends growing up who couldn't say the same. One friend's mom used to read her book report books for her just so she could hand the project in on time. Her mom's excuse? My friend couldn't read well enough to finish the project on her own. Well, how the heck is she going to learn if you never give her the chance! The same parent would also write essays and finish their homework.
I don't know if I would call her a mean teacher because she gives a lot of homework. I dont think a mean teacher would give her students a lot of homework because at the end of the day, she is the one who has to grade it. I know it can be fusterating when you are piled with homework, but it will all pay off in the long run, I'm sure.
Quote: The repetition I was bringing up was repetition that gets to the point of busy work. Reinforcement is good until the child has done it so many times they not only know it but resent it because it's a waste of time. My kids had so much busy work in elementary school it built a resentment against homework. Luckily they have done well in school.
