Our Monster slatebelt Bobs are almost 12 weeks old and look how big they are compared to the gallon water in with them and a standard cat litter box filled with sand for dusting..these are gonna be some biggens.. They are double the size of some of my older bloodlines already and i expect them to be triple the size by maturity. Will have some of these monster Bobs available next season

Any way lovley care if I steal the design once we get settled! I love that cage!

I bought a trio for $350.00 **on eggbid**(2 males and 1 female) the 1 male is not directly related to the pair..these were picked up..

The first pair cost me $350.00 that was shipped for that price, this was a private sale..got my first egg from this pair yesterday..hope many more to come..would Love to hand raise some of these ..

Oh my!!! I was going to politely ask you if you could add me to your egg list for next year, not sure I could afford those beauties. They sure are gorgeous. The pen you have made is awesome; I need to show hubby so he can see what a well designed pen looks like; we have chickens so quail is so different at this point. We just hatched out our first coturnix a few days ago, I think I am hooked now...LOL

isaacearlg i will keep you in mind for mearns..

Wood quail i don't know of anybody that has them..there are many types/subspecies of the wood quail

All wood-quail species have been adversely affected by hunting and, in particular, rampant deforestation. Several species with restricted ranges are now considered threatened

lostsoulhelpmejebus all quail can be fun to raise..pens aren't to hard to build, i prefer to stay out of the rabbit metal type pens that are out there, i like a bit more space for my birds..However i have few metal type pens that get used for temporary housing for bad males...but only tempory..

In your 1st picture you have a ladder going into a box pen,I was wondering if the quail retreat into the box at night or would they have to be shooed into the box? I thinking of adding a box like your to a flight pen of mine if I can get them to go into for lock down at night. I have had weasel problems and can't use might flight pen

Yes the ladder takes them up into the top, but it is not close-able, I'm sure you could make it close-able.. Most of the quail like to stay out in the coverd pens, the other mearns pair use their box, but the new trio it will take them a few weeks figure out what they like..

However
I'm not to worried about any preds on our property, we guarded with leg hold sets 24/7 365 days and two homemade solid weasel/mink box traps with leg hold sets inside, mice have taken residents up in these boxes..which should in turn draw mink/weasel into these boxes if any come around..

Plus i have a few game cam's set up and around to monitor things going on in and around our land/property..esp around the creek area..
