Hi everyone,

I was wanted to make an opening for my pigeon she so when i let my pigeons fly in the sky i would close the main door and they can go in through opening in the side of the loft. I want to know how much centimeters it has to be in width and diamiter and hight. We want to do this so they can easely go back in the loft through these path ways.

Also i wanted to make some pigeon boxes, how big do they need to be in lengh.

All the info here would really help.

What breed(s) do you have? I have nest boxes ranging in size from a foot square to about 30 inches long, a couple feet tall and deep. As long as there is room for a nest bowl. These work well:

I personally use the Belgian plastic and clay bowls.

As for the door, it needs to be a trap door so when they go in, they can't get back out through it. It also gives you more freedom as you don't have to go right behind them to close the opening. I use bob traps with stalls. Which means they have dividers about 4 inches wide to discourage hawks or owls from going through the bobs. Although I have had a tiny hawk or two get in. Here is an example of one you can buy. You put it in the wall like a window and those bobs (wires) obviously catch on the lower part of the frame, so they only swing out and then stop. Some, come with a bar the bobs rest on. It doesn't effect how they swing, BUT it can be used to lift all the bobs up so the birds can be released out of the same door. Then once they are out, lowered so it works as a trap again. I have this style on my old chicken coop converted into a pigeon loft. I'll go get pictures of the new bob traps my dad made for me with the stalls. In this particular example the bar works differently. It's used to lock the bobs in place so predators can't get in.

The slots in the bottom of the dividers is for an electronic clock pad if we ever upgrade.

View from outside the loft if it were installed. It's dusty and dirty from being in storage.
