Boom! That's a Monster in the middle! Have you weighed anybody yet?

They are about 7 weeksHow many weeks along are they? Your big boy probably weighs close to 10 pounds. There are a lot of hens and they take a little longer to get that big, but they will. They will also have more fat than the boys, which can be nice for cooking. After cooking if there is a lot in the pan you can pour it through a small strainer and save in the freezer to cook other things (like eggs!)
I love eating homegrown chicken!
If you don't mind me asking, are you raising them to eight weeks? That's how long I usually raised mine. They are about 7 weeks
Yes, around there. It depends when we get to butchering. If you don't mind me asking, are you raising them to eight weeks? That's how long I usually raised mine.
Nice! For butchering, I suggest only doing a few at a time. Like, separate five and do them (one day), then do five (the next day), and so forth. If you wanted to start now, and say, you've only got the weekends to do them, do the biggest (males) first and let the smaller ones grow more until you do them. Back a few years ago when my family tried butchering a big amount, we did one coop at a time to make it easier on ourselves. (We had 2-3 coops of either 15 or 25 birds in each one.)Yes, around there.
