We just processed our first batch of cornish crosses. All of them dressed out nicely except the last one - When I cut open the cavity yellow liquid came out and the heart was in a fluid pouch. I am finding conflicting info online and will probably find the same here - but is the meat safe to eat? I went ahead dressed it out but kept it separated from the rest while resting.

So the first bird I butchered died of heart failure and was full of ascites. I fed that one to the dogs as I'm not the one who caused her death (I was right there, though). My second one I saw declining, so I rapidly threw him in the cone and dispatched him; he also had ascites. I skinned that one, let him rest, and have him frozen. I feel that he is safe to eat, but if he tastes off I'll feed him to the dogs as well. The biggest thing I saw was the advice to not eat anything that you didn't kill (i.e. my first one). I read that many birds that are commercially produced have ascites fluid, but I only saw that once and have yet to find solid information regarding that. The three I butchered last week didn't have any at all, though.
