Hi! So, real quick, we are chicken people 8 weeks strong lol
I asked for 15 and he brought home 55.... and then 6.... and then 5 more....
35 Cornish rocks and a variety of layers. We have lost 2 (1 Cornish Cross and 1 Layer) altogether. So far we butchered 14 of the cx‘s at 8 weeks and decided afterwards that once we butcher the other 20 we want to order more and do it again. I am posting this because the more we talk, the more I’d like to learn about breeding to get our meat chickens maybe starting next year at some point so while I don’t want to delve too deep into trying to be creative I was wondering if you guys could point me in any direction towards breeding meat birds. I have read Cornish crosses are tricky and don’t breed true and that’s about ALL my breeding knowledge right there lol
We intend on building a building/ coop specifically for the meat birds so any suggestions on that, on breeds, on books or resources, ANYTHING would be helpful. I live in upstate NY so summers can get warm and winters can drop below zero for a bit. I live in a lake effect area so if that info helps at all, there it is
*billion pictures of my feathery pride just cause they are awesome.
