we were thinking of getting a cheap rabbit hutch from a local person. its 39 deep and 78 wide. would this work to keep some meat chickens in? also if so how many would u put in that amount of space? we can also turn them out to walk around during some of the day time. also any breed better for this set up then another?

any help or ideas would be great. sorry for all the ?'s we are brand new into chickens

thanks
ryan

The wire on the hutch will not be good for the cornish x as they are too heavy and will not be healthy for them. Dual purpose roosters will work ok for this though.

my meat birds are on wire until 3-4 weeks during the summer since cocci is rampant because of our humidity. after that, they get too big to be on wire and are pastured. make sure and put electrolytes/vitamins in their water. that will help their legs be stronger and withstand the wire.
