meat chick help

I am getting my Cornish x meat birds for the state fair Thurday. And am needing a little help. After the first three days I am going to take the feeders out at night, giving them back in the morning. With having a heat lamp for heat the first two weeks at night with know feed make them eat the bedding?( shavings)

Mine don't eat the shavings. But it is a bit of a stampede in the morning when you put the feed back. I left the heat lamp up as long as they seemed to enjoy it. Don't know if that was the right thing to do or not.
