I am laughing my head off to see 5 Colored range bird hens sittin on eggs. They look like a production line....haaha. I say... forget the bantam's, range birds can fit more eggs under their big bottoms. My hens weigh in between 9-11 pounds, I would like to know how they keep from smashing the nest.
Has anyone else raised their range birds into adulthood? I know it sounds crazy but they are WONDERFUL birds, so friendly. I have one that jumps on hubbys sholder when he goes out to feed. I put 8 hens and a roo in a breeding pen, the rest of the flock free ranges. I will be hatching my first set of chicks from my flock in a couple weeks. I cannot WAIT to see what 2nd gen looks like. I spoke to Joel from the hatchery and he said they will breed true to size but not to color. I will end up with more whites in gen 2.
