My parents live on a small pond. I was wondering if keeping a flock of meat ducks in starting in spring could be done with just a small shelter. I know the predator issue, but beyond that would they be OK to be free ranged after they were feathered out until process time? I would keep them in a brooder-type situation at my house and then ship them off to their house/pond.

Ducks are pretty good about staying close to the water and if they here or sense a predator they are quick to jump in to avoid problems.

Watch out for the snapping turtles though when they are young.

Thanks so much guys. I do believe I will give it a go! Now, any suggestions for a first timer?

i seem to remember somebody here that built a floating duck house to keep the predators away.
