i have a rir who is about 2 years old she is the favorite of my spouse so he spoils her with worms and grubs. just recently i saw her eating a mouse and thought nothing of it spouse thought it was funny so along with the worms and grubs he always finds for her he now finds her mice too. but just yesterday i was caring for my rabbits and found a dead kit(baby) i set it to the side to dispose of it after chores were done came back about 10 mins later and my rir had it about half eaten. is it normal for a hen to like meat so much? it seems to me given the choice between meat and a fresh cucumber she will take the meat every time. will this affect her eggs? has anyone every had a hen like this?

I would not eat eggs from a chicken eating dead animals. Just my opinion. In general a chicken is not a meat eater. Same reasoning behind why I wouldn't eat a meat eating animal. Coyote, Racoon etc. But some people do.

i dont know...chickens seem to be major predators, from what i have experienced. it probably makes for better eggs though.

its very good for the eggs
any kinda meat does wonders for the eggs and it makes the chicken look healthier
