meaties are **3 weeks** today!

Renee' :

I have a question, (may be a dumb one). Regarding the chart, I understand that the columns to the right are numbered 1-8 for the weeks, however do the numbers in the table represent the average weight of the chicks or the average weight of feed that each chick consumes?

Average weights of the chicks. I don't think any of us bothers to weigh (nor wants to know!) how much our chicks are eating.

I did post a chart, back on page 1, of the average amount of food they should be consuming (theoretically), by week, if that's what you're looking for.

We bought enough bags for the 10-12lbs of feed per bird found on the charts and then added one more. 10 chicks at 12lbs ea was 3 - 40lb bags, so we bought 4 bags. Rather than tracking each week, I thought to just go off of the total at the end.

Okay, mine are little bit older than yours, but I want in on this...I have not weighed them thus far, but here are my stats:

27 Cornish X

Feb 18th Hatch date

Murry McMurry hatchery

20% feed, fed 3 times during the day in their feeders, non at night

Living arrangements: living in the "coop" with 10 pullets (ages 4-9mos), and 5 RIRs also hatched same day, are open ranged (when they decide to make it outside, which isnt often)

weight is unknown (until later today when i go and do it for this, will update at that time)

Great, I've got you added! Bubbles_erin, can you tell me what brand you are feeding?
And Averytds, can you give me your stats (birthdate, source, housing, etc), and I can get you added now, then update with weights later.

There were several others that had expressed interest towards the beginning of this thread. Please let me know if you are still interested, and I'll post an updated chart tonight. Thanks everyone!

Please include:
# of chicks and breed:
Hatchery source:
Brand and protein % of feed:
Whether you are restricting feed or not:
Housing (after brooder):
Weights for each week (if you have them):

I have 8 cornish x, birthdate 3/10. I will weigh them today when kids get home, because I can't tell them apart to see if I got them all, lol. I weighed 2 last night, and got 20 and 24 oz., They are in an 8 sq ft brooder inside, until feathered, then they will go out into a 25 sq ft tractor. They are fed Dumor 20 %, i think, I usually save the label but forgot. I will check at TSC. I fill their feeder and let it be empty for a few hours before refilling, I don't refill at night, even though with the brooder light, I guess they don't really have a clue when night is. Their feeder and water are on opposite ends of the brooder so they at least have to walk that far,

As promised, forever ago...I have two pics. My chicks were bought on Feb. 28 and were day olds. There are 4 of them and they are cornish X. I feed 18% starter/grower crumbles free choice. They are also being raised with two EE chicks of the same age.

I weighed them today but the scale I found only really measures in pounds, not clear on ounces and it may be off slightly...tested it on some 1 pound items and it seemed accurate though. All of my weights are an estimation based on how this scale doesn't give ounces. I first offer a picture of the scale:

And a picture of a chick on the scale:

I put spots on 3 of their heads. "Green Spot" weighed almost exactly 1 pound (very slightly over-guessing maybe 17 oz)

"Pink spot" weighed a little more over a pound than "Green" (guessing about 19 oz)

"Brown spot" weighed the same as "pink"

And "no spot" weighed about the same as "green"

As of this "weight date", the chicks are 3 days shy of 4 weeks old.

Is that good or bad?

ETA: they came from TSC and are being fed an off-brand feed called "Winner" 18% protein free choice

I like this chart, but what % protein feed does this represent being fed? Anyone know? My chicks are growing a little slower than the chart...but I figure it's because I'm feeding lower protein than most are here...
