MMM Im not sure of that answer-I would think not at first as they are pretty small when you get them?? depends on cage wire gauge?? if the spaces arent bigger than a dime I would say yes it is good any bigger and they could get stuck falling through holes???

I dont' think I would put them on wire. Especially if you are planning on Cornishx... they have enough potential for leg problems.

I agree, don't raise cornish x's on wire, use wood shavings, grass clippings or if nothing else, straw(finely chopped)

Ive started all my meaties in a 18"x24" bird cage with a wire floor and a removable tray for bedding and only had 2 with later leg problems. I won't say I lost them because they were big enough to butcher before the legs gave out. I like the wire because it's easier to clean and I can keep them out in the barn without worring about the mice/rats getting in and eating their food or fighting with the chicks over it. I've lost chicks to rats before and it's not pretty. I'd rather keep those vermin down to a minimum and not having food available greatly helps.

Thanks
