Medicate whole flock?

You know, you people are so wonderful! What did people do before we had these forums?

Thanks for all your help!

I think I'm gonna "wing it" and see what happens.

Worst case scenario, they all die. Best case, they all live.

One thing is, they eat like they can't get enough. They drank more, but now that the Terramycin is in their water, they don't seem to drink as much. Maybe I can find a tastier replacement.

I'm gonna call our feed store today (privately owned and very helpful) and see if there is a vet in our area that takes chickens.

I'll also get the rest started on Aviacharge 2000 and possibly
Polyvisol.

I'll run everything by Dr. Peter Brown and check out the Tylan too.

Thanks again and I'll keep you all posted.

Well, I got a hold of the Chicken Doc and here is what he said...

Hey Matt:

While this could be MG I am leaning more towards a problem with Coryza.
MG
does not generally spread very fast but Coryza does.

Gallimycin Powder mixed with Aureomycin/Sulmet Powder in the drinking
water
for 14 days should bring this under control.

Vaccination may be necessary.

The above can be found in the online store at
www.firststatevetsupply.com
and will come with complete directions.

Keep em Healthy,

Peter Brown, aka The Chicken Doctor

Sounds like this stuff will bring it under contol. Still not sure what that actually means. I'll have to do some reading and see if I can find out what the long term prognosis is. Don't know if I should stop the Terramycin in the interim or continue. Also, not sure if I should medicate the whole flock. I sent a follow up email for more info.

Ordered the stuff named above from Firststatevetsupply. Only $70!!! (How much are day old chicks again?)

Okay, the chicks haven't gotten the new meds yet, but I'd swear they are getting better from the Terramycin. They have now been on it for one week (last Sat).

The new meds won't arrive until Monday or Tuesday, so I'm thinking about just keeping them on Terramycin for another week (2 weeks total) and see what happens.

Doesn't anyone have any opinions or experience with this?

I know that I seem much better after taking Antibiotics for a few days and the doctor's warned that if you don't continue the treatment for the scheduled duration, the infection will come back stronger.

But, if I keep them on it for 2 weeks, isn't that the scheduled duration for antibiotics and wouldn't that work?

Or, am I not getting all of the bugs?

Whaddaya all think?

Thanks,
Matt
