Was told today that I needed to feed my poults medicated feed. So did a search on here and didnt find or over looked the answer to my questions.

I went to TSC and they didnt have any medicated feed. Going to agway tommorrow. Is there a certain type that yall recommened?

also I have a sack of starter feed, can I mix the medicated feed with it? Is there something I could just add to the water or the feed I already have.

Thanks for yalls patience with my questions.

Not everyone uses medicated chick starter. You certainly don't have to. Regular starter works just as well. I only use the medicated because it is all I can get here.

We use medicated feed because we're in Hot and Humid South Texas. Cocci is prevalent and we're using it to prevent that in our chicks.

When they're ready to lay, we'll switch to regular layer feed. They should be over any need for meds by then.

A lot of chicks get coccidiosis, which is what medicated feed is supposed to prevent, even though they use the medicated feed. Mine did.

If i were you, i think i would just get a bottle of Corid, and if you see signs of cocci, treat right away - as opposed to going to the trouble of mixing feeds, etc. And then if you want to, when you're done with this feed, buy the medicated kind.

I wouldn't panic about it at all. Just know the signs of cocci and look for them. If/when you see any bloody poop or other symptoms, go ahead and treat the whole flock at once with Corid in their water. You can get a pint size for around $20, depending where you buy it.
