medicated feed or not

Backyard chicken raisers don't vaccinate though do they? Isn't vaccinating against something preventable the same idea as giving medicated feed? It sounds like its for the same type of thing.

vaccines have saved far more lives of human and animal than they've cost).

By the way, I agree that vaccinations have "saved" more lives than they have cost. But there has been a huge cost in regards to the quality of life these children now have.To me saved means just that the person didn't die from a disease,it can still cost a life. These children may be alive but many have lost the ability to speak, and can no longer communicate(even with sign language) use a bathroom, smile, dress themselves, make eye contact or eat by themselves never mind have a friend or have regular childhood experiences like learning to read or ride a bike, the list goes on and on.I know many parents who would rather have taken their chances with some of these "preventable diseases" than the mercury laden vaccines that are being doled out to infants. My son is now far better off than alot of others in the autistic community but I see these children every day and I remember what they were like before vaccinations.Just so you know why I feel the way I do about mass vaccinating healthy populations indiscriminately with vaccines preserved with one of the most dangerous substances known to man.
Either way, I have been feeding my chicks organic food from day one and will continue to do so.I am not marketing these eggs, I simply want the best I can get for my family.Thank you to everyone who gave their advice.

Amen! This nurse agrees with you!

I saw your list greyfields and stand corrected on the c stats. My standard book from the U.S., is obviously more outdated than I thought. As to the rest of the list I'll just

As to vaccinations, I am a sceptic in some regards. How the powers that be ever managed to get mercury established as a safe ingredient is beyond me.

Mind you I guess it is no different than arsenic being OK'd in feed. Only thing I can say here is that much of the industry, to their credit, refused to use it.

Animals that are feed medicated feed are a prime example that people are immune to certain drugs given when they are needed for infections that could cause death. Staph infections are on the rise because most drugs are resistant, because of animals being feed low doses of meds in the feed on a daily basis.

The risks can be low, by not bringing NEW birds into the flock. New stock should be isolated for 3-4 weeks. Meds can be given to sick birds but they should not be used for food.

I would agree with you Eggseronious IF we were talking about the use of broad spectrum atibiotics.

But the medication in medicated feed is usually Amprolium which IS NOT a wide spectrum antibiotic and as stated many times does not kill bacteria cocci or anything else. It works in a completely different way.
