How many weeks should chickens be med-free before eating the eggs in case they start laying early. They are 10 weeks old now, Rhode Islands, Amaracauna and Plymoth Rocks?

You can feed them medicated starter/grower right up until you get your first egg or switch them to layer at 16 to 18 weeks, whichever works out best for you. The medication in starter is usually amprolium, won't hurt you unless you are highly allergic to sulphur.

You can also usually get unmedicated starter or grower to feed after 8 weeks, up to laying age. Purina and many others have both medicated and unmedicated.
