We starter our chicks on medicated starter, but the feed store is having issues with thier supplier and is out of medicated and likely wont get more. I have 6 week old chicks who we moved outside a week and a half ago. Now I got unmedicated starter but have about 1/4 of a bag of medicated left. At this point would you just switch to non medicated, mix the two, or maybe save the medicated until they are 8 weeks and finish the bag off then as other threads have hinted that once they have been outside a bit is when they are more likely to get sick.

I like to feed Medicated Start and Grow at least 10 weeks to day old Chicks. I put the Chicks outside at 5 weeks, so they consume medicated feed for 5 weeks while outside. Then when bag is empty switch to a Non-Medicated Starter-Grower or All-Flock/Flock Raiser, 18/20% Protein.
Some only feed Medicated for 4 to 8 weeks.
Do not mix the Medicated and Non-Medicated. The dose of Amprolium is already at a minimum to be effective.
I would continue with the Medicated till gone.

They are already exposed to the ground.
Myself I would shop elsewhere to get more Medicated feed. But that's me being cautious. GC

My understanding is the medicated feed is for when they are newly hatched and peck at each other’s poop out of curiosity.

Surely by now they have learned poop is not good and have found much more interesting things to peck at. Plus their immune systems are up and able to handle its own issues.

I would finish up what you have and move on to unmedicated. Honestly I avoid using it anyway as that’s one of the reasons I am raising my own anyways.
