What is your advice......medicated or not medicated feed? I don't know what to do!
Help

Lots of people use medicated feed with no issue. Lots of people use unmedicated feed without issue. It is a personal choice.

I use medicated feed for chicks, since the chicks are not 100% quarantined from the older birds. Space is limited: the "outside" brooder is within "sneezing distance". SO-- they get medicated chick feed until they go on grower.

Like Laree said, people do it both ways it really depends on your situation.

I use non medicated because I have a couple of batches of chicks that are being raised by their moms. I just put the whole flock on gamebird or flockraiser because I don't want my layers to eat the medicated feed or the chicks to get into the higher calcium layer feed. The gamebird and/or flockraiser feeds are high enough in protien to meet the chicks needs and I just have to put oyster shell out free choice so the layer can get the calcium they need. This works great for me, trying to feed different groups seperate feeds just isn't practicle when they are all mixed together and freeranging.

I do keep a bottle of Corid on hand so that if I have a cocci outbreak I can treat it quickly.

I am new to baby chicks, and with the weather warming up, and the humidity rising, I am going with medicated starter for about the first 6-8 weeks. The starter I am using has just the Amprolium in it t help prevent Coccidiosis, not any antibiotics. It is your choice though.
