Medicated Starter - Yes/No?

I keep deep litter in my brooder pen and reuse the already inocculated litter for other batches. If I clean it out, I leave a base layer of the original. Just like exposure to mama's germs, IMO. I've never used medicated feeds and I'm sure I'm not the only one with soils and a flock that has absolutely no cocci bacteria. No such thing, so I'm not just lucky with this method...it works.

I am new to raising chickens and would like to know if it is possible to feed both. I have both medicated crumbles and unmedicated starter feed from my local feed store. Can I put the unmedicated feed on the paper towels for them to scratch at and eat and then the medicated crumbles in their dish? I am not sure that it is possible (or wise) to mix them.

Keeping things not spotlessly clean will surely help birds get immunity! Cocci is short for coccidiosis, which is actually a protozoa, not a bacteria. The eggs thrive in warm moist soils, so where it is cold and/or dry, it is much less prevalent because the oocysts cannot last long in those conditions. In ideal conditions, like warm moist GA soil, those eggs can sit and wait for a new host for years!

I got a 25 pound bag of medicated chick starter for seven. But should I put grit in there with it? I haVe some grit I give my cockatiels will that work? They suppose to be coming weds or thrus I have an awesome brooder with a brinsea brooder and a red lamp for light and I built them a huge A frame coop I can't wait.
