Nice looking Rusty Slate.
Thanks! I really think that although he is a mix, he sure is starting to look interesting! With the Bourbon in there, it really makes for an interesting combo. I have that Royal Palm too that is pictured with him in one of the photos, I am hoping she is a girl, she is about 2 to 3 months older than him. That would make for some interesting babies!
Any advice that can be shared as to the behaviors to expect and like I just learned that the purring sound means they are challenging a fight or something to that effect.
A better description of the sounds you are hearing would help. Turkeys make a spitting noise than a chest rumble when displaying, it is mostly to draw attention to themselves, a look at me girls kind of saying. Thanks! I love the rusty under-tones over the slate coloring, what a handsome boy! Could be the start of some interesting crossing!![]()
If you go to Porter's Rare Heritage Turkeys and run the Turkey Color Calculator you can see what a Rusty Slate crossed with a Royal Palm can produce. They can produce up to 8 different color varieties.
Change it to B/b, D/d, R/r for your Rusty Slate tom and b1/b1, cg,cg,n- for your Royal Palm hen.
Your Royal Palm does look like a hen to me.
